Ticket Scalping Bill On Its Way

A ticket scalping bill is making its way through the House of Representatives and has one more stop before it reaches the full Senate. Miami-Dade Representative Marcelo Llorente introduced the bill in hopes of creating a free market for those looking to capitalize on ticket resale. Check out his comments in today's Miami Herald piece about the new legislation. HB 589 "permits the resale of a ticket to a professional sporting exhibition or professional athletic contest at a price above the original sales price in specified circumstances; provides for sales tax collection on such resales."

If the bill stays in tact it will remove the 61 year old Florida scalping law and allow ticket holders to sell on authorized websites that offer consumer protection guarantees. The current law says someone caught selling a ticket $1 above face value could be charged with a second degree misdemeanor.
