Google, Facebook, Myspace A Reflection of You

Have you Googled yourself lately? If you think it is self absorbed think again, because it might be the difference between unemployment and a weekly paycheck. As noted in a recent Miami Herald Article and in this week's Business Week, "you are what you post," because employers are going to Google, MySpace, Facebook and other blogs for a peak into the personal lives of potential employees.
Each of these sites offer individuals the opportunity to customize their pages with facts, music, photos, groups, quotes, activities and a running message boards. Universities around the country are warning students to privatize their photos on these sites so they are only viewable by friends and family. “Is it something you would show your parents?,” Greg Singleton, University of Miami Dean of Judicial Affairs. That is the benchmark shared with us by Singleton in a recent interview regarding student groups and photos in Facebook and MySpace.
