Horse Auctioned For 16.1 Million

Horse.jpg

It's official, the most expensive Thoroughbred ever sold has no name. Yesterday at Calder Race Course in Miami Gardens His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum of Dubai bid $500,000 light and allowed Demi O'Byrne of Ireland to purchase the priciest horse in history. The 2 year old colt has never raced, has no name and would have to win every race including the triple crown to come even close to covering its cost, but was clocked running an eight of a mile in under 10 seconds. Let's just say that's real fast.

The other thing going for this horse is the bloodline, the forbearers are 1981 Derby winner Pleasant Colony and 1990 winner Unbridled.Bloodhorse.com sheds some light on why a price tag of 16.1 million might be worth it for O'Bryne. The Herald points to the breeding of racing legend, Storm Cat, who bred with 109 horses last year for 54.5 million dollars.
