New License Plate Proposal For Drunk Drivers

For the 12,000 drunk drivers who receive exemptions each year, a new bill might require a bright license plate with the letters, DUI in an orange/pink coral color. According to the Herald, the bill passed 6-1 in a House Criminal Justice Committee meeting yesterday. The bill would only be applicable to those drivers who have special work circumstances or other unavoidable driving requirements. The article quotes the executive director of the ACLU, who characterizes the bill as "feel good legislation." At $20 a piece, the license plates would generate $240,000 which would then be donated to trauma centers throughout the state.
