Bi-Polar "Bomber" Shot Dead at MIA
WSVN is reporting that the passenger shot at Miami International Airport is dead. The American Airlines jet landed at MIA at 12:16 p.m. from Medillin, Colombia. When the plane parked at the gate, a 44-year-old American citizen (did we just hear his name is Rigoberto Alcazar on channel 7?) indicated that there was a bomb in his carry-on luggage. The passenger was confronted by two federal air marshals on the plane, but he ran off the plane onto the jetway. (Alcazar?) then hit the floor when ordered by the air marshals, guns drawn.
This is the part where details get sketchy. Multiple reports indicate the man then reached into his backpack and was shot dead. It is not known whether the guy was popped during a struggle or not. The New York Times is reporting that the man was traveling with a woman (channel 7 says the woman was his wife). The woman ran after the air marshals, trying to explain that the man was mentally ill; he suffered from bi-polar disorder. The S.W.A.T team showed up what seemed to be hours later. Is it just Miamist, or do cops love converging on a scene hours after it's necessary? The latest: no bomb was found in the man's backpack or in his checked luggage. The man's body is still lying in the middle of the jetway.
