Putting the Real World on Hold

Key West residents are suing the producers of MTV’s the Real World: Key West. Ed and Nancy Swift claim that the lights from the MTV house next door are disrupting the usually sleeping, dark-sky community of Key Haven. The lawsuit comes after Bunim-Murray productions have spent millions of dollars since August to rent and renovate the posh water-side Key Haven home. The cast of Real World: Key West moved in shortly after renovations were completed for the upcoming season of the reality show. Attorneys from both sides will continue the case next week. If the judge grants an injunction to stop recording, the producers will be forced to close up shop and move the Real World out of Key West.

The show, which airs its current season on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on MTV, began in 1992 and has become an international success. Famed for bringing seven total straners together under one roof, the reality-tv soap opera has made stops in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Miami, Boston, Seattle, Hawaii, New Orleans, Chicago, Las Vegas, Paris, San Diego, Philadelphia and is currently airing its 16th season, Real World: Austin. The Key West addition would be the second trip to the Miami area for MTV's Real World.
